Making Plant-Based Eating Easy: Sakara’s Meal Delivery Programs

Now, I’ll admit that I’m not usually a big fan of meal delivery businesses (both the pre-made and make-your-own options). When I’ve tried them, my feeling has been that they weren’t worth the money — and I could do better just going to the grocery store and cooking my own meals. Then, I tried Sakara.
Before I invested my money in trying a three-day program of meals, I did plenty of research to confirm I was making a good choice. What I learned is that this is a program that is based on nutrition science, with a Science and Advisory Council to back up the approach. According to the company, meals are “designed based on our nine Pillars of Nutrition, which encompasses the science and spirit of a whole-food, plant-rich diet. This powerful nutrition program was created to help heal your gut, reduce inflammation, balance your blood sugar and hormones, and regulate your digestive system.”
The program is 100% plant-based, organic, and gluten and dairy free. What I liked most is that Pillar #1 is “No Calorie Counting.” Sakara’s delivery programs are focused on nourishing your body, not starving it. And while I’m not vegan, gluten-free, etc., I can appreciate occasionally cleaning up my diet and giving my body a break from things like pizza and pretzel crisps.
Depending on your location, programs are available in two-, three-, and five-day increments, and you can select two to three meals per day. (Deliveries are made on Tuesday and Friday. So, orders should be placed by Thursday at midnight.) My delivery included the dishes mentioned above plus options like Coconut Praline Granola with Cacao Milk, a Butterfly Bowl with Tie Dye Carrots, and Pink Peppercorn Tomato Bisque with Swirls. Every bit was delicious, and I didn’t feel hungry when I finished each meal.
In addition to your beautifully packaged meals, you’ll also receive Sakara’s Detox Tea (for daily use) and the Complete Probiotic (a five-day supply). According to the FAQ for the Signature Program (which is what I opted for), both are integral to the meal plan. But I have to admit that I didn’t use either, as I was really just interested in trying the food (and I was getting some probiotics from the plain Kefir that I continued to drink once a day while eating the meals).
Also, Sakara does a beautiful job of providing you with guidance. I received a thorough 32-page booklet that included information about what’s in the box, how to recycle the packaging, the pillars I mentioned earlier, whether to heat your meals, setting intentions, and more. Plus, you’re encouraged to reach out to the Sakara’s wellness coaches with questions.
