Your Road to Wellness: Sarah Charlotte Patton
Wellness is not a one-size-fits-all kind of thing. We all approach it differently. And I think we can benefit from hearing one another’s stories and strategies.
The “Your Road to Wellness” feature highlights people from all walks of life and their thoughts on wellness. (Would you like to be featured or know of someone who would be a good fit? Let me know!)
This week, let’s catch up with Sarah Charlotte Patton, owner of Nashville’s Social Bliss Events.
Q: Who is your wellness inspiration?
Oprah — she's the queen of self-care. I admire that she's a savvy business woman who juggles the Oprah Winfrey Network; O, The Oprah Magazine; WW (formerly Weight Watchers); and so many other things. She delegates, prioritizes, and puts herself first.
Q: What is one piece of advice you’d give your younger self about wellness?
Don’t burn the candle at both ends. Set boundaries, and say “no.”
Q: What do you typically do for exercise?
I love fitness classes like spin, BODYPUMP, yoga, and HIIT. I’m obsessed with spin. (Full Ride Cycling is one of my go-tos!) I’d love to be a spin instructor one day.
Q: What do you consider your greatest wellness indulgence and why?
Massages. I've made it a monthly (sometimes more) habit to get them. It allows me to unplug, turn off my mind, and get grounded. Not to mention, I sleep like a baby afterward.
Q: What is your greatest self-care/wellness challenge, and how do you deal with it?
Not allowing myself to rest. The to-do list never ends. Can anyone relate? I have to strategically mark out of office days on my calendar and shut down the laptop during after hours and on weekends.
Q: What resource (e.g., website, blog, book, etc.) do you look to for wellness/self-care and why?
Obviously, FRESHJUICE + bubbly! I also love O, The Oprah Magazine and The Daily Still Podcast (for meditation). My morning quiet time is a nonnegotiable. (You'll know if I haven’t had it!) I spend quiet time with Jesus, read my devotion and Bible, journal, set my intentions for the day, and get grounded before I embark on the day's opportunities.
Q: Which do you prefer to drink — green juice or bubbly? Why?
Bubbly all day every day. Life is short. There’s always something to celebrate!
Q: If you received $1 million to use for your wellness/self-care, how would you spend it?
I’d book massages weekly for the next year. Plan a spa retreat with girlfriends. Take some much needed R&R to Turks, Tulum, and Greece. Oh, and I’d hire a personal trainer and chef.
